What do I know about Google Earth and Voicethread? I know that in Google earth you can search any city in any place in any country and it will take you there and give you alot of photos of streets there. I know that when using voicethread you can have pictures of places or whatever and you can record your voice and talk about it. But that’s all I know, this is my first time using voicethread. Have I presented material about Google Earth and Voicethread before? No I haven’t this is the first time I have ever used voice thread and Google earth for a project for school. Do I understand what I have to do? Is there anything I don’t understand about this activity? I understand everything because I have listened to the teacher and what is the main purpose of this project. It is to present a wealth of information about certain places in New Zealand and overseas also it is to get familiar with programmes such as Google earth and voice thread. What skills and knowledge will I be using? I will be using the knowledge passed on from my teacher, like how to record your voice on voice thread and how to transfer things from it to google earth.
Identify What is the task?
What do I want to accomplish in creating a poster? How do I want to interest others in my topic? Do I want to present an informative poster that can be used as a reference? Do I want to present a warning poster that alerts people to danger? Or some combination of those goals? It will be good for people to use my poster as a reference to learn a bit more about their country and ones overseas. And they might learn about programmes they have never heard of or more about them. This poster isn’t something to be used to alert danger though. What do I need in order to do this? What materials do I have? What resources do I need? Should I do more research on Google Earth and Voicethread? I don’t need to do research on Google earth or voice thread because I can always ask the teacher about things I’m stuck on. Who will be looking at this work? How can I appeal to other students? Parents, teachers’ and students will be looking at this. It will appeal to students who are really interested in Google earth or voice tread an want to learn about it. Are there examples of Google Earth and Voicethread posters or materials that I can look at? Yes maybe from other students or on the internet which will be very helpful to show what I can improve on or areas in the programmes I haven’t explored yet. What are the obstacles? What problems may happen? There will be no problems because Google earth and voice thread are very easy to use. Can I draw a diagram that will help me to visualise my work? Draw some rough ideas for posters. Yes because in someyears to come I might revisit it and forget everything but if I have a diagram it can help me remember.
Generate How many ideas can I think of?
List as many ideas as possible. What aspects of Google Earth and Voicethread interest me? What would I want to see on a poster? I really like how I can look at any place in the world or even my house on google I just think it’s really cool and I like how you can record your voice on voicethread. Consider the advantages and disadvantages of each idea. I might have problems recording something one day and I might lose something that was really important. Bbut there are no disadvantages to my google earth idea. Are there any other subjects to consider? No What resources (books, websites, etc.) have I been provided with? What do other people think about this? Do others think I have a good idea? I have been provided with Wikipedia in finding out things about the international places to put in my project. I think other people think our project is good because we have done everything we have been asked.
Decide Which is the best idea?
Which are the best ideas? Prioritise the 3-5 best ideas. The photos I used were really good because in the pictures you could see what I was talking about clearly without anything blocking it. The things and places I chose was Beijing, Fiji, Taj Mahal, Times Square and Amsterdam. I chose Beijing because in 2008 they held the Olympics and I thought it would be an exciting thing to talk about. I chose Fiji because it’s a very nice place to visit. The taj Mahal is an amazing castle and it has alot of history behind it. Amsterdam is where Anne Frank and her family lived during world war II and it has alot of history behind it. Explain your reasons for choosing these. What are the arguments for and against each idea? My reasons for choosing the ideas are said above. And I don’t think that there are for and against ideas for my places because there is a lot of information I can give for each. But maybe the photos I used weren’t very good and they didn’t give a good picture of what I researched about really looked like. Which idea is the best one for completing the task? Which idea is best for accomplishing my goal? I think using Beijing as one of my places was the best because they held the 2008 Olympics but they had to clean up the environment to do so, they spent millions of dollars and advised citizens to take public transport. So there was a lot of things to write about. What is my plan? What are the steps to follow? My plan was to make sure that I did a lot of work in each lesson I had. I would gather my photos and information first then load them up to voice thread and proof read them and make sure the pictures were good. Then I would get them onto Google Earth and aim to finish it in time and for my partner and I to get at least a ‘Merit’ or ‘Pass’. How will I keep track of my progress? What are my milestones? I kept track of my progress in “Word” folders, Voice thread and Google Earth Photos. Possible list of steps: ·Research and gather material about my subject. ·Revise material and compose text for poster. ·Create graphics. ·Take pictures. Edit pictures. ·Assemble text and images into poster. ·Review poster and modify as needed.

Questions to consider
Implement Let’s do it!
Am I making progress through the plan? Yes I am, everything is going well my plan was very helpful otherwise I wouldn’t know what to do or I wouldn’t be as organised. Am I doing this correctly? You may need to review your goal for this activity. Yes.
Do I need to revise my plan? As you continue, you may discover facts that require changing the plan. I don’t need to look at my plan again because I have already finished the project so I have nothing to change or think about.
Am I satisfied with the text/graphics/pictures that I have created? Yes I am, I maybe would have like to record my voice instead of just writin gout my research but I didn’t have enough time and I thought it was complicated and by the time I had figured it out I had already finished everything.
Evaluate How well did I do?
Did I complete the task as originally set out? Did I solve the problem? Yes. There were no problems. Is the text as interesting or informative as intended? Are the graphics and images appealing? I picked out the information that would be appealing and interesting to people. I didn’t really mind about the graphics though as long as the people viewing it understood everything and could see it clearly. What have I done? What have I done really well? Is there anything that stands out as particularly good? I think the things I did really well was just getting the information and the right pictures. I was really pleased with everything. Is there anything that needs improvement? Should I go back and redo anything? I don’t think there really is anything I need to improve on but maybe in the future I could work a bit faster. Am I ready to communicate my ideas or show/display my work to others? Is the poster ready to be shown to others? I could talk to people about it but it might be all too complicated for them they would have to go and look at voice thread and Google Earth themselves.
Communicate Let’s tell someone!
(You may have answered some of these questions early on during the planning stages.) Who can I tell? Who is my audience? My audience is teachers, students, friends and family. What is the best way to present this to my audience? I think the best way would be on the computer because it would be impossible to explain everything if I printed it out and tried to explain. How do I interest other students in my particular subject? I can show them how Google Earth works and how they can see other countrued and cities and houses. They may not be as interested in voice thread as much. Did I include the right text/graphics/images to inform and appeal to other students? Yes
Learn from experience What have I learned?
If I had to start this activity all over again, how would I improve my performance? Would I change my work habits? Would I use a different subject or different design? Would I only make small changes? I would work faster and have more confidence on how to work on Google Earth and not ask as many questions. But yes I would only make small changes. How have I improved since that last time I worked on a similar task? I worked on it quicker and I learnt quickly on how to work the programme. Have I learned anything about my subject or about appealing to others or about presenting information? Can I use that elsewhere? I have learnt how to use Google Earth and voicethread. How has my thinking changed as a result of this work? My thinking has changed because I now know that I can work other programmes What skills have I learned and developed? Can these skills be applied to other subjects/activities? I have learnt how to use both programmes. I can apply to what I had learnt to other subjects if we have to use either of the programmes. What problems did I have to solve? Were there obstacles in developing ideas, researching material, or presenting the material? How were they overcome? I solved on how to use Google Earth and how to find the specific address on where my things in that country was. How did I use the strengths of others to help me? I asked the teacher on how to use something and it helped me alot and Stephanie showed me how to get pictures and upload them to voicethread. Then I could help my partner do that too.
